Carol L. Busby, M.D.

 

Dr. Carroll L. Busby provided health care to three generations of Plainview residents beginning in 1965, when he moved here and established his solo practice in internal medicine. He also served the community by taking leadership roles in Plainview Hospital, where he was twice chief of staff, and on the Board of Health, where he served two terms.

Dr. Busby was born in 1926 in McComb, Mississippi and grew up in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1944 and earned his M.D. from the University of Tennessee Medical School in 1947. Before moving to Plainview, he was on the medical staff at the University of Mississippi and served as director of medical services at the state’s primary psychiatric hospital. He married Mary Frances Bryan in 1947, and the couple had three daughters.

During his years in Plainview, he directed the Hale County Health Department’s chest and tuberculosis program and was a clinical associate professor at Texas Tech University School of Medicine. He served in the Army and Army Reserve for 32 years and was commanding officer of the Selective Service unit of the U.S. Army Reserve Corps in the Plainview area. He retired with the rank of colonel. Dr. Busby has been a member of the Plainview United Methodist Church since 1965.
